Control Systems Technologist

Description:

This position has the responsibility for supporting and improving the network, computer, and software components of plant process control systems to ensure optimum integrity and performance. This position generates a broad range of challenges that requires routine interaction with several work groups to ensure the maximum value is derived from our control systems. Further, this position provides formal and informal training along with development of documentation, standards, and procedures in relation to their role. This position will act in individual support and team roles for a variety of projects provide technical consulting and direction to Control System Specialists, Process Control Specialists, and Engineers.


Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Functions as a liaison between Control Systems Engineering Group (CSE) and equipment suppliers, engineering contractors, and other LyondellBasell groups such as IT, HSE, and Manufacturing.
  • Serves as technical resource on Basic Process Control Systems (BPCS) and Process Control Network (PCN) capital projects and provides consulting on all projects where these and related systems are engineered and installed.
  • Helps set technical direction for Channelview Plant for PCN computing resources, architecture and security issues.
  • Develops specifications, standard configurations, and procedures that support the high availability demands of real-time process control systems and PCN.
  • Influences and monitors system vendor's product enhancements to meet the site needs and determine implementation plan.
  • Recommends and resolves complex computing and network problems by coordinating resources or through the application of emerging technologies.
  • Represents CSE on incident response teams as enterprise wide computing problems are investigated and resolved (e.g. software defects, security issues, viruses, etc.).
  • Assures the availability and security of the site's process control networks and servers comply with corporate standards and key performance indicators.
  • Communicates any threats to the network security, and stops any work immediately when it is believed that a dangerous situation exists

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • This position requires a Bachelor degree in Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience with 5 years or more of relevant work experience in process control networks and process control server applications.
  • Requires highly specific and well-developed knowledge of process control systems, distributed control system interfaces, demilitarized zone network, and process control networks.
  • Must have excellent leadership, ethics, teamwork, communication, problem solving, analytical skills, and project management skills with a results oriented commitment.
  • The ability to manage multiple and changing priorities is essential.
  • Prior experience with PlantState Suite Software, Integrity Software, IP.21 Plant Historian, AspenTech DMC Software, or IIOT is highly desired.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
