Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities are to perform structural fitting functions with following objectives:
Perform structural fitter assignments as assigned.
Work safe and maintain a safe working environment.
Notify foreman or supervisor of any safety and/or structural issues as warranted.
Duties:
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Lays out, positions, aligns and fits together fabricated structural steel plate according to customer specifications and direction from Foreman/Supervisor.
Required to move parts into position, manually, by hoist or crane, and align parts, using jacks, etc.
May be required to remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and/or cutting torch, as well as give directions to the welder to build up low spots or short pieces.
May, at times, be required to tack weld, as necessary.
Consults with foreman or supervisor regarding installation or repair problems, sequence of operations, and time required to complete repair and/or installationAttend safety meetings as requiredMaintain a safe working environmentOther duties as assignedEducation, Experience and Training:
Minimum one year experience as a structural fitter (shipyard experience preferred, but not required)Be able to perform simple paper work as required for filling out forms and logs.
Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Mandatory drug testing prior to employment, and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol tests during employment.
Must be able to communicate and take directions from Foreman & Supervisor.
Must have good judgment skills, and a high-level work initiative;Must be able to work independently, without direct supervision;Must be able to meet strict attendance requirements Physical/Environmental Requirements:
Barge chemical environment.
Requires prolonged kneeling, standing, walking, twisting, climbing, and the ability to lift and carry in access of 120 lbs, assisted.
Ability to work in varied conditions (i.
e.
:
heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, etc.
), inside and outside.
Able to work in confined space, heights and operate equipment efficiently and safely.
